Without traffic to your online sites you will not be successful
at internet marketing. No traffic, no profits. As a rule you
create your web site to draw traffic to it. This can be done in
various ways, using advertising for example. Arguably the best
and least expensive way is to get your traffic from the search
engines. To do this you have to design your site to be
attractive to search engines. Search engines do not care how
much effort you put into designing your site with all the latest
bells and whistles. If you fail to get traffic from the search
engines no one will even see your latest creation.
To get indexed by search engines you need to utilise your
keywords effectively. If you do not or even worse, you use the
wrong keywords, your site will suffer badly and receive little
or no traffic. There are certain strategies you need to know.
For example, if you overuse your keywords you will be penalised
by the search engines. By repeating the same phrases over and
over is a recipe for disaster and the search engines will
downgrade your web site or skip it completely. Always try to
utilise unique content on your web pages. Search engines do
detect duplicate content and your site may not even get indexed

Use only the keywords that are directly related to your
business. Using unrelated keywords in an effort to get indexed

attracting visitors to your site. This is done by placing hidden
keywords on the site. If the color for the keywords is the same
color as the web page, then they are invisible to the human eye.
However the search engines are advanced enough to notice this
and again you will be penalised. Do not do it.
There are lots of search engines and each one is different. They
have their own rules and these can change at any time. Try to
study each and become familiar with their differences and check
updates frequently. It also should be obvious that using a free
web host is not useful to get your site indexed. As a
professional marketer you need to build quality web sites with
valuable and useful content. Using a free web host does you no
justice with the search engines or potential customers. Finally
make sure your site is complete. Missing graphics or links is
not good for your human visitors or the search engine spiders.
Now you have an outline of what you need to do in order to be
recognized by the search engines and get that all important
traffic. Spend your time building a quality site and you will be
rewarded. Too many sites are just plain junk, spam sites
generated in an attempt to fool the engines. It may work for a
while but overall you will suffer. The Summer of 2005 has seen
one of the major search engines target these type of sites and
they are disappearing overnight. Stay ethical, put in the
effort, build quality sites and you have a recipe for success no
matter what your business is.
